Psychological inquiry is characterized by the quest to understand human behavior It wasn't until the late 19th century, however, that psychological inquiry became systematic. That is, the field of psychology did not emerge as a scientific discipline, until just a little over 100 years ago. This makes psychology a relatively new field compared to other sciences. Nevertheless, the quest to understand human behavior has prompted many investigations of the mind, body, and behavior of both humans beings and animals. In general, psychological research is driven by three primary goals 1) describe, 2) predict, and 3) control behavior.
