What does it mean by what approaches are used in relation to legal research?

I have been given an article and have been told to analyse the approach I am a bit confused as to the difference between research method and approach. Any help would be appreciated.

What does it mean by what approaches are used in relation to legal research?
The method used in dealing with or accomplishing: a logical approach to the problem.

A method used in dealing with something: attack, course, line, modus operandi, plan, procedure, tack, technique.

Reply:An article is normally aimed at a certain readership, which will be concerned with certain aspects of the law. It is important to have some idea of this readership, which could be a very wide one or a comparatively narrow one, in order to understand the way in which the writer has narrowed down and used the material to support his arguments.
