PLZ! Social Research Methods! emergency!!!?

I'm doing a social research proposal now. my topic is transition of university. I'm going to do a two-phase interview, the first interview will focus on second or third year students, it is designed to seek the answer for 'What are the problems encountered by student in at university?' 2.How did upper level students successfully cope with transition barriers?

3.What extent the transition programs can address to the problem? after the helping program identified, i'll randomly choose 40 first year students, 20 for control group and 20 for test group. for the test group, I'll ask them to attent the helping programs that identified by second or third year students. after 6 month later compare the effectiveness of these program.

that is my plan, but I'm not sure, from above process, how many methods can you defined and what are they, Am i using mix-methods? I' m so lost please help!!!

PLZ! Social Research Methods! emergency!!!?
You sound a bit confused but don't worry - all you need to do is sit down somewhere quiet and work out the different elements of the study.

Your first phase is interviews. Ask yourself if this is a qualitative or quantitative method.

Your second phase: again, ask yourself if this is a qualitative or quantitative method.

Next write down what the various groups are (e.g. first years in program at baseline etc).

Next identify the IV, and ask yourself if it/they are within or between groups. Also identify how many levels there are to the IV. Identify your DV, and what level of measurement it uses. Then identify the kind of statistical test you need to do to analyse the data (often in a flow chart in the back of text books on research methods).

Any research methods book will cover all of the above.

Good luck!
