Whats the difference between Quantative and Qualitative methodologies/research and their methods? (Sociology)?

Please dumb it down as much as you can. I'm talking really, REALLY dumb it down. Been through about half a dozen books and a few websites and I still don't understand. Thanks.

Whats the difference between Quantative and Qualitative methodologies/research and their methods? (Sociology)?
Quantative is more to do with statistics and numbers (quantity- how much) and Qualitative is more detailed information. If you were doing a survey the feedback and detailed responses, eg how they felt about the questions or any experiences, this would be qualitative info. The numbersof people who did the survey and responses would be quantitive.
Reply:Quantative data is numbers, facts, measurements.

Example : 100 gm, 123 ml, 54 inches...

Qualitative data is observations.

Example : red colored, swollen, emotional reactions
