No research methods training - is this why doctors still remove foreskins?

when you go to university and train to be a medical doctor, you do not, typically, get training in research methods.

this reduces doctors' ability to critique research that backs up, or does not adequately back up, the treatments they perform

No research methods training - is this why doctors still remove foreskins?
There are many reasons why doctors remove foreskins. If they were themselves circumcised (generally as infants, and thus without consent) they find it hard psychological work to examine the issues dispassionately. They have to cling to the belief that it was "for the best" in their case; that their parents loved them, and did the right thing. The alternative is too hard to bear, for many people; they have not outgrown their infantile awe of the parent.

Anyhow, enough of the armchair psychology, for now...

circumcision is a memeplex, supported by many factors; see;

Oh! and let's not forget that foreskin tissue is a salable commodity! It is worth $$$$$$$$$$
Reply:"i actually think it's part of adults' regime to desensitise children."

Well, at the circumstitions site, you will find Report Abuse

Reply:reports of research showing the circumcised male infants reacted __more__ to other painful stimuli, a few months later (being immunised by injection), compared to male infants who had not been circumcised. Report Abuse

Reply:They discuss mechanisms by which the early experience of pain (often barely reduced by inadequate pain relief at the time) sensitises the infant's brain to react to pain. Report Abuse

"Pain:

The page on pain summarises studies showing the pain of circumcision has long-term effects and is only partially relieved by anaesthetics. Report Abuse

Reply:A recent report from the AAP recommends that painful procedures be avoided, but falls short of mentioning the commonest painful procedure, or of recommending avoiding it. " Report Abuse

Reply:There is a desensitising effect later, of course; the penis becomes less sensitive, over many years, so those men feel less intricate sexual sensations. Report Abuse

"Sexuality

The claim that "there is no difference in sexual function between intact and circumcised men" is analysed and rebutted on the sexuality page. It was once well known and taken for granted that the foreskin itself gives pleasure. Report Abuse

Reply:A page lists historic quotations to that effect. There are reports on the feedback page from three women who had previously only had sex with circumcised men and tell what a revelation sex with intact men was to them."

See the page for those links, and much more. Report Abuse

Reply:Doctors still remove foreskins because they're gross. You should have it done.
Reply:remove it, then fry it up with butter and and garlic and eat it.

you can also mix it with chunky soups like gumbo and your guests won't even know!
Reply:Doctors still remove foreskins because parents demand it. Researchers have "proven" that both sides--circumsize and don't circumsize--is the superior alternative.
