Can I ask a professor who I had for a class called Qualitative Sociology Research Methods to write me a letter of recommendation even if the Masters degree I'm applying to is not Sociology? We learned alot of research techniques that I think would be useful for my Master's thesis.

yes, of course. any college professor would be qualified to write you a letter of recomandaition.

But recommendations from professors in what are called "allied fields" are also valuable. As you learned online, at least 2 of 3 of your letters should be from professors in your intended field of specialization. A third from your sociology professor would be absolutely appropriate.
Reply:Of course, he is only recommending you for a class and has no need to be within the discipline to do that. Good luck.
