What are the positives and negatives of using questionnairres as the method of a research study?

+ not time consuming - 100's of questionnaires can be sent out at once

+ No researcher is present so eliminates researcher bias and is cheaper

+ Can cover a wide geographical area

+ Can easily be repeated

+ Trends and patterns can be compared over a period of time

- Low response rates

- Cannot prompt or assist respondant if they do not understand a question

- Difficult to ask a lot of questions as this could cause respondent fatigue

What are the positives and negatives of using questionnairres as the method of a research study?
QUITE HONEST MATE THEY ARE A LOT OF BOLLUCKS HI I THINK THEY ARE A LOT MORE HANDY BOLLUCS I MEAN THEY HAVE HELPED TO CREATE OUR NATION
Reply:So that the companies asking can get a grant bigger than the year before
Reply:To see how many of the general population agree and disagree with what ever they're asked, how many 'yes' compare to 'no'....
Reply:The positives are:

the data is primary data - providing you have collected the data yourself

you choose the questions so your data is always going to be linked to you study or hypothesis

The negatives are:

If you hand it out to the first few people you see then the data might be similar if they are friends and have similar ideas and views

People might not be willing to take part

And if they do participate they may not answer taking their time or they might be influenced by their friends to answer in a certain way
Reply:good=people can give their honest opinion without being pressurised to say what they think the researcher wants to hear (if it was a face to face interview)

bad=people dont always send them back! you may have to chase them up!
