What methods of cooking rice are there?

I am doing a project that requires me to research on the different type of rice cooking methods, other than using the rice cooker/absorption method. Please help! thanks xD

What methods of cooking rice are there?
I was raised on rice since my grandfather is 100% Chinese. My mom taught me his way of cooking rice and I still cook it this way. No need to measure. Just add the amount of rice you need to the pan. Rinse several times with water. Drain out the water. Then put your index finger just on top of the rice and fill the pan with water until it hits your first knuckle. Cook on high until it comes to a boil. Turn heat to simmer with a tight fitting lid for 20 minutes. This is a traditional Chinese way to cook rice.
Reply:The "only" way I had learned to cook rice was to use twice the amount of water as rice.

Now I learn a "baseline" to use for this measuring without measuring. - THANKS! :-) Report Abuse

Reply:for some flafor, add seaweed jelly powder, or add a bit of salt
Reply:There are many ways to cook rice! Aside from just plain steaming or boiling in a rice cooker, you can use a pressure cooker, a casserole dish, or a saute pan. In general, you'll need two cups of liquid for every cup of dry grain. But there are exceptions to this, such as when you're making a soupy rice, like the Indian dessert, kheer, or Chinese jook/congee. You can also put it into a casserole, add water and the other ingredients, and bake it until all of the water is absorbed. Then there's the famous Spanish dish, paella, which is cooked in a huge, somewhat-shallow pot atop the stove. With all of these dishes, you add the water at the start of cooking and let the grain absorb it.

But there is one rice dish that uses an entirely different method, and that's the Italian dish called risotto. (Rice pilaf is cooked somewhat similarly.) With risotto, you put the dry grains directly into the saute pan with some butter or other cooking oil, and you brown it. Then you add the cooking liquid, one ladle-full at a time, and stir it until the liquid is absorbed. You keep adding ladles-full, one at a time, until the rice has absorbed all of the liquid that it "wants" to absorb (you can tell when it's done, because it's tender when you taste-test it).
Reply:I lived where rice is a part of daily meal... other than steaming it... you can fried it... of course you should steamed it first before frying. We also grind it, to become rice flour or rice starch. For other ways or uses of rice click the liks below:

Reply:"xD"? Oh, it's supposed to be a laughing face. Aww, that's adorable...if you're nine years old. xD
Reply:I do have a rice cooker and that works great, but I used to just cook it in a saucepan on the stovetop -- it's always a 2:1 ratio (2 cups water to 1 cup of rice, or 4 cups water to 2 cups of rice, etc.).
Reply:This is from the USA rice federation. There is a whole section on how to prepare rice.

Reply:The best way to cook rice is wash your rice make sure all the starch comes out, you will see the change of colour in the water will turn in to a cloudy colour. Then put a tablespoon of olive oil in your pan fry your rice for about 1 minute, then boil water. I usually calculate 1/2 cup of rice for each person so if its for 2 people do 1 cup of rice and always double your water, so 2 cups of hot water, add salt and let it simmer for 15mins keep an eye on it and stir once, should come out nice and fluffy. Good luck.
Reply:There is Boil in Bag Rice Available at grocery stores and it only takes about 10 minutes to cook either on the stove or in the microwave.
