Highlight the problems in the industry due to the traditional development methods?

Give the stages of the system Develoment Life cycle (SDLC) and explain the objectives of each phase. Highlight the problems in the industry due to the traditional development methods???

this was a research paper for me

i have written the first part about SDLC and a few views of my own on the old traditional system. it would be helpful if u all can give me a few points which u know

THANK YOU

The current SDLC (and I assume you are asking about the Systems Development Life Cycle) consists of the following steps (from Wikipedia)

Feasibility Study

Analysis

Design

Implementation

Testing

Evaluation

Maintenance

The Wiki definition is as good as any. Each author has a slightly different list.

The problem with the current SDLC includes

1) requires people from different disciplines. The people doing maintenance do not need the same set of skills as the people who do the feasibility schedule. Each set has a different objective.

2) the cycle involves too many people and is labor intensive. On any fairly large system it will take a lot of different people to accomplish the system

3) Time consuming - Each cycle of the SDLC takes a significant amount of time. The sum total can be very long. Thdere is only a limited amount of overlap possible.

4) Costly - the cumulative cost of all of the above steps is expensive.

5) Correctness - because there is a loss of communication between each step errors are introduced at each edge. The testing and evaluation cycles attempt to remove these miscommunications.

This is a quick list. I am sure that one can come up with many more.
